Nourish - January Gathering We are in January, which is the month everyone in the country tries to recover from two straight months of holidays. It’s the season of packed gyms and fad diets, as everyone pretends to like quinoa and kale. The trouble is, Americans especially seem to be terrible at choosing foods that are actually good for us. The Soul of Harry Potter I am a recent convert to the Potter books. I saw the movies growing up, but I never read the books. When I started a few months ago, I was surprised to find out how much better the books are than the movies. There are whole storylines I had missed because they were left out of the movies. That’s one of the reasons I think the books are so popular: the have the level of detail that reminds us of real life events. Because of that detail, you could write a book on the Christian themes of Harry 11/30/2017

Wings and Teams Back in August, several gastrochurch people asked if we could something different—ditch the white tablecloths and gather in a parking lot for a tailgate party. Ein Prosit: A Conversation about Martin Luther Appetizer: Pretzel rolls with Beer Cheese Dip It’s the 500th anniversary of one of the most paradigm-altering phenomena of Western Christianity: the Reformation. The Reformation was actually quite a complicated event, with many different actors, motives, and changes at play. To focus for tonight, we’re going to concentrate on the primary character who jump-started the whole thing: Martin Luther. Comfort Food We’ve just been through a traumatic month as a city. Harvey affected all of us in different ways, but what was perhaps most frustrating about it was the sheer randomness of it. Some people were safe and dry with air conditioning and food in their apartments, and literally a block away others were being rescued from rooftops. There was no fairness in who got flooded and who didn’t, no rhyme or reason. Sometimes one block would be devastated and the next fine. That kind of experience leaves 09/17/2017
